Installation Guide
- Choose location: Select an outdoor location on an exterior wall, sheltered from direct rain and snow. Ensure adequate ventilation — the unit must be installed outdoors with at least 12″ clearance from any openings (windows, doors, vents). Do NOT install indoors or in an enclosed space — risk of carbon monoxide poisoning!
- Mount the unit: Use the included mounting bracket to secure the water heater to the wall. Ensure it is level and securely fastened. The bottom of the unit should be at least 12″ above the ground to prevent water damage.
- Connect water lines: Connect the cold water inlet (bottom left, marked blue) to your cold water supply. Connect the hot water outlet (bottom right, marked red) to your hot water distribution. Use 1/2″ NPT fittings with Teflon tape. Install a shutoff valve on the cold water inlet for easy maintenance.
- Connect gas line: Connect the propane gas supply to the gas inlet (bottom center, marked with gas symbol). Use a gas-rated flexible connector or rigid pipe. Install a shutoff valve on the gas line. Ensure all gas connections are tight.
- Install batteries: Open the battery compartment on the bottom or side of the unit. Insert 2x D-cell batteries (not included) for the electronic ignition. Observe correct polarity.
- Test for gas leaks: Turn on the propane supply. Apply soapy water to all gas connections. Check for bubbles — any bubbling indicates a leak. If you find a leak, turn off the gas, tighten the connection, and retest. NEVER use a flame to check for gas leaks!
- Flush the system: Turn on the cold water supply. Open a hot water faucet to allow air to purge from the lines. Let the water run for 1-2 minutes to flush any debris from the installation.
- Test operation: Turn on a hot water faucet. The unit should automatically ignite (you’ll hear the spark and the burner will light). Hot water should flow within 5-10 seconds. Adjust the temperature using the digital control panel. Verify the water temperature is consistent and the unit shuts off when the faucet is closed.
- Final checks: Verify the burner flame is blue and stable (not yellow or sooty). Check all water and gas connections for leaks after the unit has been running for 10-15 minutes. Ensure the exhaust gases are venting freely and not entering any building openings.
